Review by hotel critic
During my recent stay at a charming hotel in Kolkata, I found an intriguing blend of traditional and modern elements that captured the essence of the city. The building, originally constructed for the East India Company's writers, has been thoughtfully restored. It adds a unique character, with a warm shade of yellow that immediately reminds one of Kolkata's iconic taxis. My room, comfortably decorated and equipped, provided a pleasant space. The wooden shutters made it a bit dark unless opened, leading to some noise from the lively street below. The dining experience leaned heavily towards western and Italian cuisine, which was unexpected for a trip to India, but the food itself was decent. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the Kali Temple, enriching my cultural journey. Though amenities like the two-level roof terrace and room service were handy, I felt that simple upgrades could enhance some services.
